Church Mutual Insurance Company, S.I. (a stock insurer)¹ was founded in Merrill, Wisconsin, in 1897 by a group of forward-thinking community leaders. More than 125 years later, we remain deeply committed to our hometown.
From humble roots, Church Mutual has grown to be one of the Merrill area's largest employers, with approximately 700 employees based at our Home Office in Merrill. Although Church Mutual has expanded nationwide and now has employees in all 50 states, Merrill remains our headquarters and largest base of operation.
Church Mutual invited Merrill Mayor Steve Hass to visit with its executive management committee. The discussion centered on how the city and company can partner for the betterment of Merrill. Our financial strength has helped us continue to be a foundational and supportive citizen of Merrill and the surrounding area.
In 2021, Church Mutual committed to making Merrill Foundation, Inc., its conduit for charitable giving to the Merrill community. We make regular contributions, totaling approximately $50,000 annually based on the company's financial results, making Church Mutual the primary funder of this foundation. The mission of Merrill Foundation, Inc., is to support local organizations that seek to enrich the Merrill area community now and into the future.
Church Mutual stages a variety of activities and games to promote giving to United Way during our annual campaign week, including this recent adaptation of a classic game show.

Every month, a group from the Church Mutual Underwriting Department assists the Aging & Disabilities Resource Center in Merrill with its Stockbox Program distribution to low-income elderly residents. We encourage our employees to make a difference in their communities by offering paid time off to do volunteer work. Over the course of 2021, our employees logged more than 1,200 hours, with the majority of those served in the Merrill area.
