Poirier elected to Church Mutual Board of Directors

MERRILL, Wis. (March 19, 2015) — Church Mutual President Rich Poirier of Wausau was elected to the property and casualty insurance company's Board of Directors at its annual meeting on Wednesday.

In addition, Michael Grebe of Milwaukee has retired from the Board, as his term expired after 12 years of service.

Poirier joined Church Mutual in April of 2011 as Vice President — Claims. In September of 2011, he was named COO. He was promoted to President in June 2014.

Prior to joining the company, he served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Claims for the Liberty Mutual Agency Markets Corporation. In that role, Poirier was responsible for all claims, loss mitigation and managed care activities and had approximately 1,500 employees reporting to him. Before that, Poirier served two years as Senior Vice President Western Division Underwriting for Wausau Insurance Companies in Warrenville, Illinois.

Poirier earned his bachelor's degree from Marquette University. After being commissioned an Ensign in the United States Naval Reserves, he returned to Marquette and earned a Juris Doctorate from its law school. Following that, Poirier entered four years of active duty as a Navy judge advocate. After active duty, he continued his service in the Naval Reserves, retiring in 2010 with the rank of Captain.

He is a member of the Wisconsin Bar and licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of Wisconsin, the Military Court of Appeals and the Federal, Eastern District of Wisconsin.

Poirier is active in numerous civic organizations and is a member of the board of directors of the Marathon County Chapter of the Boys and Girls Club of America and the Wausau Wolf Pack Youth Lacrosse Association.

Grebe is the president and CEO of the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, a private foundation providing grants in support of democratic capitalism; limited, competent government; a dynamic marketplace for economic, intellectual and cultural activity; and a vigorous defense at home and abroad of American ideas and institutions. Prior to becoming the foundation's CEO, Mr. Grebe was a member of its board of directors for six years.

Prior to joining the Bradley Foundation, Grebe was chairman and CEO of Foley & Lardner, one of the country's largest law firms, where he was a partner for more than 25 years. Mr. Grebe concentrated his practice on corporate and financial law.

Church Mutual, which now insures more than twice as many religious organizations as its nearest competitor with more than 94,000 accounts, is rated A (Excellent) by industry analyst A.M. Best.
